Whenever a spouse comes home after a long deployment it is like a whirlwind of going and doing and man, I am getting tired out! I don’t know about all other families, but we have been doing all kinds of stuff but it seems like we are getting nothing done! We have a welcome home party over the weekend, which was washed out by tropical storm Beryl, by the way. We have been running around fixing up my husbands truck, which has been a pain. And now that the girls are back in school I am trying to settle into our normal routine, but my husband makes it really hard since he is on leave. But he is at work today (leave or no leave, his end of the month reports need to be in!) so I am trying to catch up on cleaning and odds and ends that I need to get done. What I really want to be doing is catching up on my DVR’d shows! I am exhausted, but onward I go!
I am going to start making some calls this week to schools who are hiring and see if I can get in for some more interviews. What I really wish is that someone would call me and just offer me a job! Ahhhhhhh…if it were only that easy! But I have done some research, found a whole bunch of openings, and need to get on the phone. But first, I think I might clean up the house and maybe sit down with a book, just for an hour, I have greatly missed my reading time this past week! If there were only 2 more hours in the day…
Well my crazy week is almost wrapped up! I went into a crazy cleaning phase, had to argue with AT&T to get my husband’s cell phone re-activated, and a million different errands. But it all paid off and we finally greeted the missing part of our family on Tuesday morning! Here is a little photogenic proof!
In other good news I have a meeting at the school that has been on the very top of my “would love to work at” list!! I am so excited and hope that I can show what I can bring to the table for them! It really would be my dream job! But of course with every piece of good news comes bad news. My bad news came in the form of strep throat. They day that I welcomed home my husband I was diagnosed with strep. I guess it is running rampant through the schools here. It’s not even bad, except it has taken off with my voice! It is just starting to come back today, hopefully it fully returns by tomorrow! Thank goodness for antibiotics!
After Friday Thomas is officially on leave for two weeks! We plan on doing some fun activities with the kids and also some work on the house! We are having a welcome home/graduation party this weekend so we can get together with all of our friends that Thomas has not seen in the last 8 months. I think the kids will have the most fun, we are renting a big bounce house and bring out the water slide, and later on a bon fire with smores! And speaking of graduation I received my diploma in the mail today, it sure is pretty!
What. A. Busy. Week!
This week is crazy! Monday was dance pictures for Emma and Kaitlyn had a practice for the school talent show. Tuesday was piano practice then straight to the school talent “show”. Which semi-angered me because it was supposed to be a SHOW. Turns out there were judges and three trophy winners. I don’t really agree with judging elementary kids at a showcase of their talent. Anyways…she did great, but she did not win a trophy so she was kind of sad.
I forgot to take a picture of Emma on Monday, so this is her a few weeks ago trying on her costume.
Wednesday and today I traded with a friend so yesterday she took Emma and I went and got my hair done, nails, and did a little homecoming dress shopping! Then we were off to the USO to make welcome home signs for the base!! We are getting so close and the girls are so excited to see their daddy! Today was more errands and then Abby’s dance pictures who was adorable as well!
In between all of that I have been putting in a few applications here and there. Not sure if I will hear back from any but it’s worth a try. I also heard that there is an opening at a school that I really want to teach at! I am really hoping to get an interview there! Next week when life gets settled down I plan on starting to make some calls and hopefully get some meetings lined up! We will see! I am not totally sure how this whole process works, but I am sure I will learn as I go!
Thanks for helping put all of this together! I really love the 6 word memoir and am extremely glad that you introduced it to me! I plan on using this activity again and again!
Grand Canyon University, where I received my M. Ed. requires everyone to have an ongoing electronic portfolio as you work through you degree. I think this is a great idea and an easy way to share what you have done. I am currently utilizing it to showcase my work as I apply for jobs! You can find my portfolio here!
Now, back to portfolio (paper version) for me! I greatly underestimated the time that it would take to actually do it! But I think it will turn out great and I will post pictures when I am done!
Well all last week I studied and studied for the FTCE General Knowledge Math test and I PASSED!! I was so stressed over this test I am so relieved to have it done! The next day I sat down and filled out my online application for the county school district and today I did my resume and requested all of my transcripts. And let me tell you, when you have been to many, many colleges it takes a lot of time and money to request all of those!
Today was Mother’s day. I woke up to a very sweet email from my husband, which he never usually does. A “menu” from my girls with breakfast options. They were a bit lacking so instead we went out to Panera and shopping at Lowes. We love going to Lowes to look at all the lawn and garden stuff. We got two new flowers to plant and the cutest bench for the girls to use. I was wanting to put something by the front door but there is not enough room for a small table and chairs and today we walked in and BAM, super cute bench! So we went home and planted flowers, cleaned out the garage, and back porch and relaxed with a movie afterwords.
We have 8 days until daddy gets home! We (I mean ME) have a busy week of dance recital pictures, Kaitlyn is playing piano in the school talent show, and lots of cleaning and getting the house ready. It has been a bit neglected the last few months. I am also child swapping on Wednesday and Thursday so my friend and I can run errands to prepare before the guys get back! So time to relax for the rest of my Mother’s day and back to the gym and heavy-duty (late) spring cleaning tomorrow!
This has been a long, headache filled week. It’s only Tuesday. I want to fast forward to Friday night at about 8 pm. That would be great. I have a good feeling about the test on Friday though. I only need a 58% to pass. I have taken two practice tests and have passed with a 71% and 75%. For all purposes we should subtract some points for my horrible test taking then I should still be good!
My other huge headache this week (besides my non-stop talking 4-year-old) is this headline: The Sullivans skipper relieved of command. This is my husband’s ship. They almost made it home without another case of bad luck. This will be the third CO fired from this ship in under three years.
Uhhh…putting the kids to bed, getting out a book that I have been waiting to read and may indulge in a glass of wine. Then back to math, math, and more math tomorrow!
