Getting prepared!

I have been hard at work today!  Trying to get all classroom organization taken care of as I patiently await for news about a position today!  The waiting is killing me!

Pintrest has helped in many ways getting organized! Also I read the First days of School by Harry Wong and listened to the DVD and they inspired me in many ways!

First binder is the everyday organizational binder.

The tabs in this one include:

-Important information. Such as class lists and schedules.

– Student data.  This will include contact information (a student info sheet), conference/meeting times, and assessment scores.

-Curriculum and Testing calendars and any other school calendars as needed.

-Grades. This will include district grading requirements, 9 week grades or homework mark off sheets.

-Team meeting notes & handouts.

-Faculty/site based meeting notes & handouts.

-Professional Learning Community (PLC) notes and handouts.

-Parent call/contact logs

The forms binder is a place to keep all forms that I will need to reproduce throughout the year!

Lesson plan binder. Tabs seperate by months. I do think that I will add a lesson plan tab to my organizational binder for daily use, then transfer to this binder for future use and reference.

The homework notebook.  I got this idea from the dvd in the Wong book.  This will go in the absent box that I posted a picture of earlier.  I will probably just use notebook paper to quickly write down each days assignment, then the students can look up what they missed and grab the items they need from that day’s folder!  This will be so much easier than hunting them down to tell each of them what assignments they missed! And having them sign it let’s me know who got the assignments and who did not!

I found the cute school themed paper at Michael’s today for $3!

I think I am almost ready!  Now I just need a job!

Life update and a few book reviews!

I want to say that I have had a lot of educational and teacher planning going on in my life in the last month. But, sadly, I have not.  I have just been busy doing the mommy and wife thing, with home maintenence on the side!  We have totally re-done our back yard! We extended it out ten feet, put up a shed, fenced the whole thing, made a kids play area and fenced that off so the dogs can’t get in there, put up a screen enclosure, spread out two dump trucks full of dirt, laid sod, and got a new patio table. That was all pretty much done in the last two weeks. I have never worked so physically hard in my life! I am a more of a read on the side and watch the work being done kind of person!  I am exhausted!  But I love my new backyard!

Last week was my birthday! Nothing exciting happened though. The girls and I just spent a quiet day at the beach, my husband had to work.  It was great spending the day relaxing after all that working.  And the day after I decided to purchase a mini van! I have been resistant to do so, but compared to other large size vehicles it was the best fit for having three little ones and their friends and I have to say that I absolutely love it!

Yesterday I checked the vacancies list again and noticed that quite a few new openings had posted so I made some calls and sent out my resume. Hopefully I can get some interviews lined up. I am so extremely eager to find a job!  This is seriously what I have been waiting to do my whole life and not having a job yet is killing me!  I am already planning out what I need to accomplish to get my room ready, what kind of forms and information I need to ready for the first few days, and much more. I do need to sit down and make a list so that i can be more prepared when I actually start getting things ready.  I went to the store yesterday and saw that all the school supplies are out already! That just gets me even more excited!

In between all the work I finally finished Game of Thrones (find it on Amazon.com here).

Image This was a bear of a book to get through. Not because it wasn’t good, because it was!  It was just long and very small print, and there are a lot of characters to keep track of, but all in all, a very good read.  I usually don’t really read these types of books, but a friend suggested it, so I picked one up and started in on it.  I actually picked up the second book  as well, but knowing how long it took me to read the first one I am going to hold off and fit a few shorter books in first!  It is kind of like a historical fiction/fantasy/sci-fi.  And I have to say I am not always a fan of making books into TV shows or movies but I can say that I think this will make a really good show. I have not yet had the chance to wactch, but one day when I get a some free time I plan on sitting down and watching.  Usually I like to give some plot in my book reviews, but it would be really hard, and really long to do so for this book.  But I do think that most readers would enjoy this book. Like I said I am not a sci-fi or fantasy lover at all, but this was a really good read!

I give this book ***

* Wish I never read this book.

** Okay read.

***This was  a good book

****Great book, recommend to all!

Book Description (from Amazon.com)

Publication Date: March 22, 2011
Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.
Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
Here is the first volume in George R. R. Martin’s magnificent cycle of novels that includes A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords. As a whole, this series comprises a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy, bringing together the best the genre has to offer. Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure fill these pages and transport us to a world unlike any we have ever experienced. Already hailed as a classic, George R. R. Martin’s stunning series is destined to stand as one of the great achievements of imaginative fiction.

The next review is for Bared to You by Sylvia Day.

I also read this one because a friend recommended it. It is very similar to the 50 Shades of Gray series. I was going to look at the print dates on both because they pretty much have the same plot line, just with semi different characters. It was a decent read. I read it in just one day, so it is pretty short.  I just wanted a little summer read to clear my mind and relax before I moved onto something more serious!

I give this book **

Book Description (from Amazon.com)

Publication Date: June 12, 2012 | Series: A Crossfire Novel
“If I were to recommend any book today to readers who enjoyed 50 Shades…this would be the first one I would offer….scorching love scenes.”–Dear Author
THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…
He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private worlds…and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

I have another book to review, one by Tim O’Brien, but I am off to take the girls to the movies so that will have to wait for another day! Happy summer!

Just keep running…

Nothing exciting has been going on around here. Tropical storm Debbie has been hitting us pretty hard with the rain and wind. I kind of welcome it though. If it is raining that means my husband is not making me help out in the yard! Although it is coming along nicely, I am really over doing all that work.  We have been busy around here with appointments, keeping up on the housework, job hunting, and trying to keep the kids entertained!

I started training for a HALF-MARATHON near the Kennedy space center that will take place in November!  Now, after almost dying after the 15k I did a few months ago, I just may be crazy for even thinking of adding four more miles! But I am hoping that I train better for this one. And if I feel like I can’t do it, I won’t.  That is, unless I already paid for it, well then I have to do it, don’t want to waste money!  I also just signed up for the Color Me Rad 5K and it looks like so much fun!  I even started my own team and so far we have my husband and I, he is not aware that he is running this yet, and three other couples!  I hate running but for some reason I love running races, always a great vibe!

Still on the hunt for a teaching position. I have had two interviews so far and I finally got my Official Statement of Eligibility here in FL, so I sent out 5 more applications yesterday.  Hopefully I can get some more interviews lined up!  Waiting is so hard!

Trying to get back to normal!

Whenever a spouse comes home after a long deployment it is like a whirlwind of going and doing and man, I am getting tired out!  I don’t know about all other families, but we have been doing all kinds of stuff but it seems like we are getting nothing done!  We have a welcome home party over the weekend, which was washed out by tropical storm Beryl, by the way.  We have been running around fixing up my husbands truck, which has been a pain.  And now that the girls are back in school I am trying to settle into our normal routine, but my husband makes it really hard since he is on leave.  But he is at work today (leave or no leave, his end of the month reports need to be in!) so I am trying to catch up on cleaning and odds and ends that I need to get done.  What I really want to be doing is catching up on my DVR’d shows!  I am exhausted, but onward I go!

I am going to start making some calls this week to schools who are hiring and see if I can get in for some more interviews.  What I really wish is that someone would call me and just offer me a job!  Ahhhhhhh…if it were only that easy!  But I have done some research, found a whole bunch of openings, and need to get on the phone.  But first, I think I might clean up the house and maybe sit down with a book, just for an hour, I have greatly missed my reading time this past week!  If there were only 2 more hours in the day…

Just my luck…the good and the bad

Well my crazy week is almost wrapped up!  I went into a crazy cleaning phase, had to argue with AT&T to get my husband’s cell phone re-activated, and a million different errands.  But it all paid off and we finally greeted the missing part of our family on Tuesday morning!  Here is a little photogenic proof!

In other good news I have a meeting at the school that has been on the very top of my “would love to work at” list!!  I am so excited and hope that I can show what I can bring to the table for them!  It really would be my dream job!  But of course with every piece of good news comes bad news.  My bad news came in the form of strep throat.  They day that I welcomed home my husband I was diagnosed with strep.  I guess it is running rampant through the schools here.  It’s not even bad, except it has taken off with my voice!  It is just starting to come back today, hopefully it fully returns by tomorrow!  Thank goodness for antibiotics!

After Friday Thomas is officially on leave for two weeks!  We plan on doing some fun activities with the kids and also some work on the house!  We are having a welcome home/graduation party this weekend so we can get together with all of our friends that Thomas has not seen in the last 8 months. I think the kids will have the most fun, we are renting a big bounce house and bring out the water slide, and later on a bon fire with smores!  And speaking of graduation I received my diploma in the mail today, it sure is pretty!

It’s non-stop up in here!

What. A. Busy. Week!

This week is crazy!  Monday was dance pictures for Emma and Kaitlyn had a practice for the school talent show.  Tuesday was piano practice then straight to the school talent “show”.  Which semi-angered me because it was supposed to be a SHOW.  Turns out there were judges and three trophy winners.  I don’t really agree with judging elementary kids at a showcase of their talent. Anyways…she did great, but she did not win a trophy so she was kind of sad.

I forgot to take a picture of Emma on Monday, so this is her a few weeks ago trying on her costume.

Wednesday  and today I traded with a friend so yesterday she took Emma and I went and got my hair done, nails, and did a little homecoming dress shopping!  Then we were off to the USO to make welcome home signs for the base!!  We are getting so close and the girls are so excited to see their daddy!  Today was more errands and then Abby’s dance pictures who was adorable as well!

In between all of that I have been putting in a few applications here and there.  Not sure if I will hear back from any but it’s worth a try.  I also heard that there is an opening at a school that I really want to teach at!  I am really hoping to get an interview there!  Next week when life gets settled down I plan on starting to make some calls and hopefully get some meetings lined up!  We will see!  I am not totally sure how this whole process works, but I am sure I will learn as I go!
